Safety vs. Stupidity

If I was to say that starting July 1st of this year, anyone could carry a firearm openly onto any college campus or private school, what would you say? How would you feel?

Well if we are not careful this question could transform into a statement.  After the shooting in Arizona it seems that a Florida Senator feels that more people should be able to openly carry their firearms as long as they have a concealed weapons permit.  Although the idea is to enhance the safety of the population and counteract random acts of violence, I think the passing of this bill would do quite the opposite.

Instead of my normal bashing ignorant people with power, I will look at this idea from both sides as rationally as possible.

From the side of the Senator and his supporters:
  • To allow everyone the right to protect themselves at all times

From the side opposing the Senator and his supporters:
  • To ensure safety of everyone
  • To keep environments of learning safe and not to intimidate others
  • To reduce collegiate violence and violence in general

In my opinion, if this bill was to pass it would open the door way for more moments of violence than anyone could imagine. When people who are in support of this bill think about it all they can say is "no other state that uses similar bills has problems that people would imagine". I feel that passing this bill would be the gateway for all sorts of problems. Instead of having more people that are allowed to carry guns openly, there should be more police officers in the field that can protect and serve the people.
"Any person with a pea brain [and..]that hits the age of 21 can get a gun," Malcolm Alls.
It takes a shooting in Arizona before a football game (the BCS National Championship, to be exact) for people to think that guns should be entered into arenas that they have no business...Hmmmm, when there was a school shooting in Columbine no one thought that guns should be allowed in school at all. When Virginia Tech had their tragedy no one proposed allowing guns openly on campuses throughout the United States. But once our beloved North American sport is jeopardized people want to have guns implemented in places that they have no business! Why haven't they suggested increasing the number of officers on campus, the number of self-defense course or even allowing people to have any other alternative to carrying a gun? Simple, they have their own personal interest at heart and don't care about what others are thinking about or the consequences of their actions.

Even if you are in support of carrying your gun in public, please sit back and think why would anyone need to carry a gun into a learning environment that is teaching anti-ignorance, when guns are used instead of working out issues in a logical manner?
